about homeless tunes
homeless tunes is the brainchild of folk singer/songwriter John Craigie and drummer, audio engineer and web developer Trent Boeschen. The idea behind the site is to provide a shelter for otherwise un-sellable music for independent artists -- there is very little hassle to posting and selling songs and albums here. In today's fledgling digital distribution industry, it never hurts for artists to provide their goods for sale in as many places as possible.
All singles at homeless tunes are priced at 85 cents: 50 cents goes to the artist directly, while the rest goes to the operating costs of the store. Albums can be variably priced and artists keep 70% of sales. There is no set-up fee for musicians, so they start making money as soon as their first sale is completed.
All orders are final and non-refundable. Why is this? First, it's because almost all songs are available to listen in full quality and length on their product pages. Secondly, all orders have a 30 cent + 2% fee imposed by Paypal for payment processing. That means when you purchase a single track at 85 cents, only 3 cents remains for store operations - and we aren't dealing with enough volume to have that cover even our server costs...
Purchasing from homeless tunes requires a free account. All you need is an email address. We cross our hearts and hope to die that we will never sell your email address, or otherwise use it for anything other than account management here at homeless tunes. Your account lets you download tracks you have purchased as many times and as often as you like. If you have a facebook account, you can use that - just look for the "Connect with Facebook" button on the log in page.
Paypal is used for all transactions. That means homeless tunes never sees your credit card info, and if any malicious souls out there want to, they'll need to break through Paypal's defenses. Also, you don't need a Paypal account to use a credit card.
All MP3's on homeless tunes are 160Mbps or higher and DRM free! Digital Rights Management is useless, consumer-unfriendly, you-don't-actually-own-it filthy stuff -- we would never want to restrict how you listen to the songs you buy!
You can download your purchased songs as many times as you like and from any internect-connected capable computer. Albums are provided as .zip files (natively compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux), singles as .mp3.
